Write with purpose
Discover the methods of master storytellers to bring focus, creativity, and meaning to your writing.
This site is for creative writers, content and copywriting enthusiasts, and multi-passionate creatives.
Writers of the ancient age had to wait for the muse to inspire them. Now, we must separate signal from noise, and hunt our own muses to bring our writing to life.
Let's explore
The topics we cover are strictly for the curious
Creativity
Where do ideas come from? And how do you access the ones that make a difference? We study how these sparks of creativity work and help you overcome creative blocks.
“Original minds are not distinguished by being the first to see a new thing, but instead by seeing the old, well-known thing, which is over-looked by everyone, as something new.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
Story
To capture the imagination of people, ideas need structure. We will learn about the elements that make powerful stories, and how they inspire us to think, feel, and act.
“When we look for the meaning of life, we want a story that will explain what reality is all about and what my particular role is in the cosmic drama.”
― Yuval Noah Harari
Content and copywriting
The way we engage with writing evolves all the time. We research modern marketing trends and timeless copywriting tips so you can reach, teach, and engage your audience with originality.
“It takes a big idea to attract the attention of consumers and get them to buy your product. Unless your advertising contains a big idea, it will pass like a ship in the night.”
— David Ogilvy
Hello, I’m Tom 👋
“How can I be a better writer” is a question I’ve had since the days my school teachers predicted I’d be a journalist (spoiler: I didn’t).
Instead, I studied English and creative writing at university—three years of learning from legendary stories and writing not-so-great ones. When I published a fiction novella, only my dad bought it… so I wanted to reach more people with my words.
For 8+ years I’ve created 100’s of articles, emails, presentations, courses, and resources in the worlds of education, media, and consulting. I’m grateful thousands of people read and watch my content every day. Yet there are some questions I still can’t shake:
Like Where do ideas actually come from? Or How is Stephen King such a prolific writer? Or How can I influence people more through shorter copy?
Hunting the Muse is a site dedicated to answers, taking the patterns I’ve learned over years of writing for businesses whose missions speak to me, and studying and writing the art of great stories.
